Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal data [Your legal business name] ("we", "us"), of [Registered address, Kampala, Uganda], collects through this website and the Tekton add-in, why, and what you can do about it. We collect as little as we can: what's needed to sell and license Tekton, and to stop licenses being misused.

1. What we collect

When you start a trial or buy

  • Your email address, and your name if you give it at checkout: your license is made out to your email.
  • Your order: the plan, number of seats, amount, currency, date, and the payment provider's reference numbers.

We never see or store your card number, bank details or mobile money PIN: Paddle or Flutterwave takes those directly.

When Tekton activates and checks its license

  • Your license key and email, and your license file, to confirm the license is genuine.
  • A computer identifier: a one-way code (a SHA-256 hash) made from your computer's hardware identifiers. It can't be turned back into those identifiers, and we never receive them. It's how we apply the computer and seat limits, and one trial per computer.
  • When each computer last checked in.

Tekton doesn't send us your Revit models, your designs, or anything about what you do with it. Its log files stay on your computer.

When Tekton checks for updates

The installed updater asks our server for the latest version, sending the version you have, your computer's processor type, and a random identifier the updater creates for rolling out updates gradually. It isn't linked to your license or email.

When you visit the website

Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes your IP address to deliver the site, protect it from attacks, and limit how often trials and checkouts can be requested. This site sets no cookies and uses no analytics or advertising trackers. Paddle's checkout, when you open it, is run by Paddle under Paddle's privacy policy.

2. Why we use it

  • To provide what you asked for: issuing, activating and checking your license, delivering your key, and supporting you (performing our contract with you).
  • To prevent misuse: computer and seat limits, one trial per person and per computer, and protecting our service from abuse (our legitimate interest in selling a licensed product).
  • To meet legal duties: keeping records of sales for tax and accounting.

We don't sell your data, and we don't use it for advertising.

3. Who else handles it

  • Cloudflare hosts this website, our license server, its database and the installer downloads, and sends license emails if we email you your key.
  • Paddle processes card and PayPal payments as our reseller and merchant of record, and handles its own customer, tax and invoice records.
  • Flutterwave processes mobile money payments.

We may also disclose data where the law requires it, or to protect our rights, for example against fraud.

4. Where it's stored

Our database is stored by Cloudflare in Western Europe, and our providers may process data in other countries. Where data leaves your country, we rely on our providers' safeguards for international transfers, such as standard contractual clauses.

5. How long we keep it

  • License and order records: while the license exists, and then for [7] years for tax and accounting.
  • Computer records: until the license is moved to another computer or deleted.
  • Trial records: kept so that each person and computer gets one trial.

6. Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it, and you can object to how we use it. Deleting your data ends any license tied to it, and we may need to keep sales records the law requires. Write to support@example.com; we'll answer within 30 days.

If you're in Uganda, the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019 gives you these rights, and you can complain to the Personal Data Protection Office. If you're in the European Union or the United Kingdom, the GDPR or UK GDPR gives you similar rights, and you can complain to your local data protection authority.

7. Security

Data travels only over encrypted connections. License files and our server's answers are digitally signed, and access to our systems is limited and protected by sign-in. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect yours and will tell you promptly if a breach affects your data.

8. Children

Tekton is professional software for adults; we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

9. Changes

We'll post any change to this policy here with its date, and email customers with an active license about significant changes.
